Our Story

MAKING A DREAM INTO A REALITY

MAREZ LLC D.B.A. MarezCafe

MAREZ is a fusion of two family names — Maldonado & Florez — reflecting rich cultural roots from the Dominican Republic and Colombia. Together, they built a Veteran-Owned Business dedicated to sourcing the finest coffee from around the globe, with a specialty in Arabica green beans from Colombia. In collaboration with other roasters, MAREZ offers a unique menu featuring exceptional products sourced worldwide.

Our original logo is rich with symbolism: the visible “M” represents Maldonado, and the vertical “Z” represents Florez, embracing the letters in between. Interestingly, the “M” draws inspiration from the water ideogram in ancient Egyptian writing, while the “Z” mirrors the shape of an ax used 3,000 years ago — both essential elements for coffee growth and production. The “A” crossing the “M” forms a pyramid, symbolizing the connection between the Earth and a Higher Power — God and His Wonders. Altogether, the logo subtly integrates MAREZ within a harmonious combination of shapes, reflecting the union of the two families whose shared love of coffee has been a cornerstone of their relationship.

The original blue logo (2013) represents the ocean (“Mares” in Spanish), symbolizing the company’s mission to connect and share its products worldwide. The brown logo represents the earth, highlighting the company’s core product — premium coffee.
